Our Story
The Obelle wellness brand was borne out of my personal search into ways to tame the hormones which have domintated my life at times. O-be-ll-e- or 'Our best life ever' is about harmonizing the competing needs of many 40+ peri-menopausal women with the on-the-go demands of our personal and professional lives. Now in my mid forties, I've slowly adapted to living a plant based lifestyle whilst acknowledging that sometimes I need the reinforcement of supplements and vitamins that I know work.

What is Collagen?
Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies, found in bones, muscles and tendons as well as skin, hair and nails. It is part of the connective tissue in the skin that creates firmness and suppleness and is vital for skin elasticity, as well as driving skin cell renewal.

But Collagen Can't Be Absorbed or Penetrate the Skin...
I avoided purchasing collagen supplements, believing in the science which told us that collage molecules were too big to penetrate below the skin or be absorbed though the stomach into the bloodstream.
I didn't really didn't believe that consuming collagen orally could really make a difference. assuming that the collagen would simply be digested and broken down in the stomach before it entered the bloodstream.
However, analysis of recent data has shown that after the molecule is broken down, the fragments are absorbed into the bloodstream and distributed through the entire body, including the skin, where small fragments remain for up to 14 days.
Then comes the interesting bit: your body is essentially tricked into thinking that these fragments indicate the kind of collagen breakdown/damage which your body would suffer with a big tissue injury, telling it that repair is urgently needed. So the presence of the the collagen fragments that you drink actually stimulates fibroblasts to produce more collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid – the compounds that give our skin its youthful qualities. And I personally am all for that.
